Urban Stormwater Management

The training will allow participants to:

Become aware of the importance of an “organic” relationship between urban planning and urban stormwater management.
Get to know the state of the art in terms of innovative solutions adapted to good management of urban stormwater, at the technological level (so-called techniques of retention of stormwater to the plot for example) and institutional (town planning laws, regulations, tariff policy, etc...).

Summary

The alternating phenomena of “extreme events” are due to the impact of climate change, but not only. Human activities also have their share of responsibility, ranging from poor urban design to outdated design choices for stormwater drainage systems.

Description

The purpose of this module is to address the management of stormwater, or more specifically, urban runoff, generated by a rainy event. This is a topical issue, because of the upsurge and the multiplication of flood events all over the world, including in the countries of the South, despite the drought in these countries.

The training will provide a comprehensive view of the theoretical foundations of good urban stormwater management. It is a matter of understanding the major issues related to this issue, in particular in relation to the accentuation and multiplication of so-called extreme events (drought/ floods), due in part to the impacts of climate change.

This module is dedicated to all actors working in the water sector in general and those in the Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) in particular. It is intended for technical profiles at all levels, as well as for financial and managerial staff responsible for the planning, programming of projects and programs. This course is also intended for the staff of the planning departments at the central and local levels, as well as for the architects and town planners who are required to prepare the master plans of town planning and town planning.
