This short program aims to introduce learners to various surface engineering and coating fabrication technologies that modify and enhance material properties, providing protection against corrosion, friction, and wear under demanding contact conditions or in aggressive environments. The course will provide knowledge on the principles and working mechanisms of different physical and chemical synthesis processes for coatings and thin films.
By the end of the course, participants will have acquired the following knowledge and skills:
- Gain insight into the use of thin films and surface coatings for various applications.
- Identify relevant technologies for each specific surface modification application.
- Understand the mechanisms of physical and chemical technologies for thin film deposition, coatings, and surface engineering.
- Learn the principles, advantages, and limitations of different thin film deposition and coating methods or surface modification techniques.
- Analyze the impact of process conditions on film growth and properties.
