The proposed training will enable participants to:

• Address challenges related to understanding and operating desalination techniques in general, and membrane technologies in particular (reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, microfiltration, ultrafiltration, and electrodialysis), while considering the complexity of maintaining membrane performance, including factors like lifespan.
• Provide a comprehensive review of knowledge and expertise in desalination technologies, especially reverse osmosis. Various national and international case studies will be highlighted to showcase strategies for managing the complexity of desalination, particularly reverse osmosis.
• Share expertise gained from studies, implementation, and operation of desalination plants in Morocco, with comparisons to global experiences.

Session 1

• Simplification of Desalination Technologies: Educating potential users and non-specialists on desalination concepts.
• Skill Enhancement Through Experience Sharing: Leveraging case studies and feedback from existing users of desalination technologies.
• Advanced Knowledge in Desalination: Gaining expertise through project analysis, from feasibility studies to diagnosing operational plants.

• Participants should have a basic scientific background.
• Participants should possess foundational knowledge in potable water treatment, whether as operators, managers, or design engineers.
• A good level of proficiency in French is required.

Mahmoud HAFSI, PhD 

Dr. Mahmoud Hafsi earned his Ph.D. from Paris XII University, France, in 1991, and graduated from the Institut Supérieur de Commerce et d'Administration des Entreprises (ISCAE) in Rabat, Morocco, in 2005. He began his career in 1991 at the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) as an engineer responsible for developing desalination and specific water treatment activities (design, operation, control) within the Water Quality Control Department. In 2008, he joined the International Institute for Water and Sanitation (ONEE) as Head of the Technology Watch and Document Management Division. In 2020, Dr. Hafsi started a new chapter as an Independent Consultant in the fields of water and the environment. He has conducted numerous expert assignments with national and international institutions, focusing on the development and diagnostics of desalination plants. He also serves as a trainer at UM6P (Master’s and BTS programs) and EHTP, specializing in desalination and potable water quality control. Dr. Hafsi has led several national and international R&D projects and has authored around 40 scientific publications in the field of water treatment.
