Pr. Fouad GHAMOUSS

Areas of Expertise: Energy Conversion and Storage: Batteries and Hydrogen Production/Utilization

• Dr. Fouad Ghamouss is a professor at UM6P, where he leads a research group dedicated to energy transition, with a specific focus on hydrogen production and utilization, as well as energy storage technologies such as batteries. He joined UM6P and the MSN department in April 2022, bringing extensive expertise in electrochemistry and energy systems.
• Prof. Ghamouss earned his PhD in electrochemistry from the University of Nantes in 2007 and later obtained his habilitation to supervise research (HDR) in energy storage (batteries and supercapacitors) from the University of Tours in 2015. Before his current position, he was a lecturer at the University of Tours for 13 years and an associate professor at UM6P from 2019 to 2022.
• His career includes significant experience as Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-Investigator (Co-PI) in numerous national and international research projects funded by organizations such as ANR, CNRST, the European Union’s H2020 program, and the Centre-Val de Loire Region (LAVOISIER program). His work has also involved collaborations with leading industrial partners, including Saft Batteries, STMicroelectronics, Blue Solutions, Nawatechnologies, Renault, Thales, EDF, and Air Liquide.
• Earlier in his career, Prof. Ghamouss worked as a research engineer for EDF in France (2007–2009), contributing to the development of membranes and air electrode assemblies for metal-air batteries. He has co-authored over 80 peer-reviewed publications, 8 patents, and numerous conference proceedings and technical reports in electrochemistry and related fields. He has supervised or co-supervised 34 PhD theses and more than 40 Master's students in areas such as electrochemistry, materials science, energy storage and conversion, and hydrogen production.
• In addition to his research, Prof. Ghamouss has extensive teaching experience at undergraduate and graduate levels. He has taught courses in general chemistry, thermochemistry, inorganic chemistry, electrochemistry, corrosion, energy storage systems, and hydrogen production at institutions such as the University of Tours, the École Polytechnique de Tours, and the Hubert Curien School of Engineering in Bourges. At UM6P, he is also involved in several executive training programs in energy and materials science.
• Recognized as a leader in his field, Prof. Ghamouss was elected to the French National Council of Universities (CNU) in 2019 and has served as a scientific expert for the National Research Agency (ANR). His work continues to push the boundaries of electrochemical technologies and energy systems, aiming for sustainable solutions for the future.
