The primary objective of the certificate is to equip participants with the skills needed to play a key role in the ongoing energy transition. Upon completing the program, they will be able to:

• Understand the fundamentals of major renewable energy sources (solar, wind, etc.).
• Design and optimize renewable energy production systems, whether standalone or hybrid.
• Address current challenges in energy storage and its role in enhancing the flexibility of the electrical grid.
• Understand the technical, economic, and environmental aspects of renewable energy projects.
• Use digital tools and simulation software for project feasibility and optimization.
• Grasp emerging trends in the renewable energy sector, including digitalization and "Power to X."

The admission requirements for this certificate are as follows:

• Hold an engineering degree or equivalent in a technical or scientific field.
• Have at least three years of professional experience in a sector related to energy, engineering, or project management.
• Proficiency in technical English is desirable, as some course materials may be in English.
• An application review will be conducted, considering the candidate's academic and professional background, as well as their motivation for pursuing this training.

MODULE 1: Photovoltaic Solar and Its Applications

• Day 1: Introduction to the photovoltaic market and public support policies. State-of-the-art technologies and future perspectives.
• Day 2: Photovoltaic module manufacturing processes and reading specifications. Challenges of grid integration.
• Day 3: Sizing of PV installations and practical case study.

MODULE 2: Wind Power and Its Applications

• Day 1: Principles of wind turbine design and wind resource assessment.
• Day 2: Sizing wind systems based on site characteristics and installation capacity.
• Day 3: Feasibility study, component selection, and technology choices.
• Day 4: Methods for controlling and managing wind systems, grid integration, and digitalization needs.

MODULE 3: Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) and Its Applications

• Day 1: Introduction to CSP technology, its principles, and grid integration.
• Day 2: Study of thermal storage technologies and hybridization with PV systems.
• Day 3: Feasibility study for CSP plants with practical case studies.
• Day 4: Managing CSP project implementation and exploring digitalization needs.

MODULE 4: Energy Flexibility and Storage

• Day 1: Introduction to storage technologies (batteries, flywheels, compressed air, thermal storage, etc.).
• Day 2: Analysis of the services storage technologies provide to the electrical system.
• Day 3: Overview of microgrid, on-grid, off-grid, and smart-grid solutions.
• Day 4: Case study on system hybridization, management, and optimization.

Prof. Fouad GHAMOUSS

Dr. Fouad Ghamouss is a Professor at UM6P, where he leads a research group focused on energy transition, with a particular emphasis on hydrogen production and utilization, as well as energy storage technologies such as batteries. He joined UM6P and MSN department in April 2022, bringing with him extensive expertise in electrochemistry and energy systems.  Pr. Ghamouss earned his PhD in Electrochemistry from Nantes University in 2007 and later obtained his Habilitation (HDR) in Energy Storage (batteries and supercapacitors) from Tours University in 2015. Prior to his current position, he served as an Associate Professor at Tours University for 13 years and an adjunct professor at UM6P from 2019 to 2022. His career includes significant experience as Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-PI on numerous national and international research projects, funded by organizations such as ANR, CNRST, the European Union's H2020 program, and the Région Centre-Val de Loire (LAVOISIER program). His work has also involved collaborations with industry leaders, including Saft Batteries, STMicroelectronics, Blue Solutions, Nawatechnologies, Renault, Thales, EDF, and Air Liquide.  Pr. Ghamouss's research career includes a role as a research engineer for EDF in France (2007-2009), where he contributed to the development of membranes and air electrode assemblies for metal-air batteries. He has co-authored over 80 peer-reviewed publications, 8 patents, and numerous conference proceedings and technical reports in electrochemistry and related fields. He has also supervised or co-supervised 34 Ph.D. theses and more than 40 Master's students in areas such as electrochemistry, materials science, energy storage and conversion, hydrogen production.  In addition to his research, Pr. Ghamouss has a wealth of teaching experience at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has taught courses in general chemistry, thermochemistry, inorganic chemistry, electrochemistry, corrosion, and energy storage systems, and hydrogen production at institutions such as the University of Tours, Ecole Polytechnique of Tours, and the Hubert Curien Engineering School in Bourges. At UM6P, he is also leading/participating to several executive education programs in energy and materials science.  A recognized leader in his field, Pr. Ghamouss was elected to the National Council of universities (Conseil National des Universités (CNU)), in France in 2019, and has also served as a scientific expert for the French National Research Agency (ANR). His work continues to push the boundaries of electrochemical technology and energy systems, with a focus on sustainable solutions for the future. 

Prof. Khalid Radouane

Prof. Khalid Radouane, renowned for his expertise in renewable energy, currently serves as Director of New Technologies at EDF Renewables in France. He also shares his knowledge as an Affiliate Professor at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P). As an active member of executive committees, he contributes to the strategic direction of EDF Pulse Holding, EDF Solar Solutions, and Agregio Solutions. Additionally, he is an Expert Fellow within the EDF group. Prof. Radouane’s career is distinguished by strategic roles where he successfully led the development and industrial implementation of innovative solutions, particularly in renewable energy, microelectronics, digital technology, and green hydrogen. Before joining EDF Renewables, Prof. Radouane gained valuable industrial experience with leading companies such as Total, Oerlikon, and Soitec. In these roles, he played a key part in advanced microelectronics projects and the design and production of equipment for manufacturing the first generation of flat LCD screens. These diverse experiences not only enhanced his technical expertise but also honed his ability to manage complex projects while strengthening his leadership in technological innovation. His academic background is equally impressive, with a Ph.D. in plasma physics from the Laplace Institute in Toulouse. He furthered his research with a postdoctoral position at the University of Orléans – Polytech’Orléans, specializing in the use of complex plasmas for manufacturing solar panels based on polymorphic silicon. This strong scientific foundation, combined with extensive industrial experience, has enabled him to develop a strategic vision and a pragmatic approach, effectively transforming research into tangible and efficient solutions. He has authored several publications and holds six patents in his fields of expertise, contributing significantly to the advancement of the industry. Prof. Radouane is also recognized for his professional and community engagement. As an active member of various expert committees and scientific councils, he is committed to knowledge transfer and the training of future generations of engineers and researchers, playing a vital role in shaping the future of the energy sector.
